What it does not do
  • Works with no internet.
  • Asks for no permissions.
  • Nothing you type leaves the phone.

Every one of these is checkable. The app declares no permissions at all, which you can see on its store page before installing.

How it works

Four taps for a whole stack

  1. 1

    Set the number of questions

Once per stack. The app remembers it for the next paper.

  2. 2

Tap once for every wrong answer

The percentage and the letter update as you go. Half credit and undo are one tap away.

  3. 3

    Next paper

The count resets, the settings stay. Four taps for a whole stack.

The story

Why this exists

Most teachers who grade by hand still keep a cardstock grading wheel in a drawer. Line up the number of questions, read the score. It has worked for decades because it does one thing and needs nothing.

The app that digitised it stopped being updated in 2019. It still has thousands of reviews from people who liked it, and a growing pile from people whose phones outgrew it.

Grade Ruler is that same wheel, rebuilt to keep working. No account to create, nothing to subscribe to, and nothing about your students leaving your phone. If it stops being maintained one day, it will still open and still be right.
